Phil Watkins
A graduate of St. Mary’s University School of Law, Phil Watkins has been practicing law for over 40 years. He’s licensed to practice law in the state courts of Texas, all Federal District Courts in Texas and the U.S. Court of Appeals Fifth Circuit.
Specializing in personal injury trial law, Phil is a member of several leading industry organizations, including the State Bar of Texas, San Antonio Trial Lawyer’s Association, Texas Trial Lawyers Association, American Association for Justice, The National College of Advocacy-Advanced Advocate and the American Board of Trial Advocates.
Phil has been involved in over 175 civil jury trials to a verdict including personal injury, medical negligence, product liability, consumer fraud/DTPA, oil and gas, contract and general civil matters. He has also been involved in 10 cases pertaining to good faith and fair dealing in insurance code cases.
As lead counsel, Phil has handled and tried 12 cases with jury verdicts in excess of $2 million and mediated to settlement 25 cases for over $1 million.
In the past 15 years, Phil has served as lead counsel in 50 lawsuits by farmers alleging herbicide and chemical injury to pecan orchards, peanut crops, soy bean crops, sweet potatoes, vineyards and rice crops in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
Phil has also represented defendants and insurers in a variety of matters, such as representing:
- Over 60 physicians as private counsel in medical negligence lawsuits,
- Over 20 corporations as private counsel in civil litigation and as a consultant with insurance companies and their agents; and
- At any given time, five or more corporations on a per case basis on matters generally related to their insurance coverage for a particular incident.
